Thoughts on “Inherit The Wind”

So right now the movie Inherit The Wind is on. If you’ve never seen it, I highly suggest you do.

Word of warning, it WILL piss you off.  I can’t stand to watch this movie any more than I already have because of how angry it makes me.

The cast includes Spencer Tracy as Henry Drummond, Dick York as Bertram T. Cates, Fredric March as Matthew Harrison Brady, Gene Kelly as E.K. Hornbeck, and Harry Morgan as Judge Mel Coffey.  Full cast can be found at the link above.

On real person fiction.

Okay ladies and gents and everything else around. I’m going to throw this out there.

I am personally uncomfortable with real person fiction.  That’s one reason that it took me so long to write SPG fics.  Because while the robots are characters, the humans are themselves.  So I personally turn the humans into characters.  If you see my Michael Reed and then see the real Michael Reed, they are nothing alike.

To me, it feels like I’m dabbeling into people’s real lives.  And that’s not okay with me.  I have written ONE real person fiction.  And it tore me apart for months.  And I promised I would never again write a real person fiction.

That being said, if others write them, that’s their own thing.  Good on them for being able to write what I will not.  I have a limit, and they have surpassed a limit that I can’t.

I will say, however, that I will never approve, ever, of real person fiction porn.

Full stop.

That will never, ever, be okay in my books.  And here’s why.  They are real people.  And they have a choice in what they do in their lives.  It is not your place to decide for them, even if it’s fiction.

You writing a porn fic between person A and person B, while in real live person A and person C are married, is pretty much telling these people, these real life people, “I, a total stranger, do not approve of your life choices.  Therefore, I will fix it.”

Which is rude.  Extremely rude.

Even more so when you realize that you posted it on the internet.

Where these people can find it.  And read it.  And it comes to their attention that you dislike what they chose in their lives.

"But Serif, what about when I ship them with who they are married to?"

Oh good for you!  I’m so glad you kept it canon.

No.

You are fantasizing about two people, two real people, getting it on.  You area inviting yourself into their bedroom.  A place that is for them, and no one else.  This is their personal life, not something for others to dictate or be informed on.  But you are forcibly putting yourself in their bedroom, in their lives.

And posting it on the internet, where they can find it and read it.

Characters are not real.  Yes, real people play these characters.  Yes, they can feel real to their writers/actors.  But they are not real.  They can change on a whim of a flourish of a pen or keyboard.

Real people are REAL.  Putting them into porn-like situations without their consent is not okay.

Even more so when you write it for the sole purpose of being blackmail because you KNOW it’ll embarrass them.

Don’t do it.  If you write it, fine, you do that.  You have fun.  Don’t post it on the internet, where the people you’re writing about can, and will, find it.

How much would you like it if someone wrote porn about you with someone you don’t like/don’t know/had a fling that ended badly, and then posted it for others to read it?  Or worse, they tell you they wrote it, and then dangle it over you like a threat?

Do you like that?  No?  Then don’t do it to other people.  I don’t care if they are famous, or just some random internet person.

Just. Don’t. Do it.

Edit: As I said, I make the humans of SPG into characters, and that’s how I’m able to write about them.  If you notice, I DON’T WRITE PORN OF THEM.  Turning them into characters and writing porn of them, still using their real names, is still not okay.  The whole point of this post is about writing PORN of real people.  You don’t always know how real people act, so you make it up, they become characters.  If you are still writing about the real people, using their real names, it’s still real person fiction.  And is still porn.  Writing fics, they are fics.  Writing porn, is writing porn.  Of real people.

Thoughts on “Men In Black III”

Well!  My room mate surprised me today, asking if I wanted to see Men In Black the third.  I had wanted to see it anyway, so I’m not going to pass up a free movie.

Will Smith as Agent J, Tommy Lee Jones as Agent K, Josh Brolin as Young Agent K, Jemaine Clement as Boris the Animal, Emma Thompson as Agent O, and Michael Stuhlbarg as Griffin.  There are more, obviously, but I’m just listing the important ones.

Obviously spoilers for the movie, and no screen caps, as it’s in theaters.  Much thanks.

Thoughts on “The Avengers” or “Avengers Assemble”

Well, THAT was a good long sleep!  Saw the midnight showing of “The Avengers” as it’s called here.  I’m aware that it’s been released in other places as “Avengers Assemble,” which I find to be the coolest title ever.  Makes more sense to me.  Anyway.  Cast list is a bit extensive, so we’ll go with the basic most important people.  Bit of a list, let’s hop to it!  Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark (Iron Man,) Chris Evans as Steve Rodgers (Captain America,) Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner (Hulk,) Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton (Hawkeye,) Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow,) Clark Gregg as (Agent) Phil Coulson, Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and Alexis Denisof as The Other.  Quite a star-struck cast!  Even a small part like The Other has a huge name behind it!

Before we begin, however, I’m going to say that I’m not going to go very deeply on every character, or everything that happened.  The cast is just too big, making everything too much to touch on in one post.  Several posts, of course.  I may be doing follow up posts later, when I have time to write more.  I know I’m going to have to write one on Loki alone, let alone a mixed post of Clint and Natasha.

Be aware that there are SPOILERS in this!  It’s only JUST come out in the US, and there are people that haven’t seen it yet.  Please be aware of this, and respectful of this on your own sites.  You don’t like being spoiled, do you?  Because the movie is still in theaters, there will be no screencaps.

I went to the midnight showing of “The Avengers” last night.  And I must say, I have now seen all the lead-in movies.  I hadn’t seen “Hulk” or “Captain America” and I had only seen about half of “Iron Man 2.”  Sarah had every movie, so we spent NINE HOURS sitting on the couch watching EVERY LEAD IN MOVIE.  While it was fun, it gave me a bit of a headache.  And then you get to a crowded theater late at night, with loud people who were drunk/high, and you tie it in with Marvel’s love of “make fights scenes loud as fuck, but dialogue so quiet you need a hearing aid to hear it” you have a problem.

I have some issues remembering everything that happened in the last ten minutes of the movie.  I remember it, but it may not be coherent.  I may still not be coherent, let me know if I am.  Anyway, onto the review!

Ask box and reviews

Hello everyone!  Welcome followers, old and new!

Just popping in to let you know that my blog is going to have a new section!

Once a week, or so, I’m going to be posting a review-like blog about a movie or television show that I’ve watched recently.  Or maybe even a book, if I can find a new one to read, rather than re-reading old ones.

These posts will be titled “Thoughts On” and will have two specific tags.  “Thoughts On” and “Reviews.”  My first one can be found here, at “Thoughts on ‘Scandal in Belgravia’" which doesn’t follow one of the rules because of when it was posted.  See below:

These sections will be tagged, and will have a reply box open on them.  “Scandal” does not, because I can’t figure out how to open a reply box on a post that has already been posted.  I didn’t know I’d be doing this at the time.

All posts will be honest.  I will not say I loved something when really I hated it, and I will not say I hated something when really I loved it.

All posts will have screen caps if applicable.  If it is still in theaters, I can’t get screen caps.  And therefore won’t.  If it is on home video, I’ll get screen caps.  “Scandal” will not fit into this, because I watched it on a television with friends, and do not have the file, so I cannot get screen caps.  I will not download it, because I said I’d only watch it once, so there you go.

Because of how honest I’m going to be, if you suggest something and I dislike it, please keep a civil mind, and a civil tongue, and don’t “chew me out” for not liking your particular fandom.  I will be kind in my reviews, but I’m not going to lie.

Oh, and yes.  I do take suggestions!  I welcome them, in fact!  My ask box is open to logged-in and anonymous alike.  I can’t be everywhere and “up with the times” as much as the whole of Tumblr is.  So please, do suggest me things to watch/read!

Don’t be afraid!  I don’t bite hard!  Even though there’s a chance that I may not enjoy the movie, show, or book that you suggested, there’s a chance that I WILL enjoy it!  Don’t be afraid!  You never know until you try, now, do you?

Please help spread the word.  The more suggestions I have, the more segments I can write!  And the reply box will be open on this post, so please feel free to share your ideas.

If I miss something in the section that you noticed, if I got something wrong, if you agree/disagree, if you just want to leave a little message of any kind on any of these posts, please leave a comment in the reply box.  I’d love to answer them.  I’d love to hear what you thought of the story.  I’d love to hear what you thought about my thoughts of the story!  This is a give and take blog.  Please don’t be afraid to raise your voice here.  If you want me to reply I’ll do so.  If not, that’s fine too.  Won’t you join us?

First (really, second) part of this segment is either going to be “Hounds of Baskervilles” or “Third Star” unless someone throws a suggestion my way.

Thoughts on “Scandal in Belgravia”

So, yes, I’ve watched it.  Went to a friend’s house and they kept throwing out “They do this” and “This has been going on” and I was sitting there going “DAMNIT I love these characters why can’t I enjoy myself?!”  And then they tossed out “It’s still slow, but The Woman is in it.”  I’m all “ADLER?” And they said yes and that was the end of that.  I watched the first episode of season two.  Fuck you people.

So yes, thoughts.  As I watch these, I’ll post my thoughts on the episodes.  I will not re-watch season one.  End of story.  You’re lucky that I’m slowly wadding through season two.  Cutting it for length.

If you care about what I say about characters, read under the cut.  If you want to skip that (admittedly, it’s boring and long,) and go straight for what I got from the story itself, go to the second dotted line.
